The European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng) exists to promote the profession of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and the people who serve it. The Society is particularly active in:
EurAgEng is the European member of the world wide agricultural engineering organisation CIGR.
Conferences
The AgEng Conference held every two years in Europe is a major international
event providing an important technical forum and an opportunity for networking.
AgEng2004 was held in Belgium and
AgEng2006 in
Germany. AgEng2008 will be held in Crete in June 2008. There was an extra
AgEng conference in November 2007 in Hanover in conjuction with the
German society, VDI, alongside the Agritechnica exhibition. Members of
EurAgEng are eligible for reduced registration fees at AgEng conferences.
The Society also sponsors and publicises high quality conferences, workshops
and other events.
Working Groups
Eighteen Working Groups (WGs) ranging from Air Quality in
Animal Houses to Soil & Water provide the technical nucleus
of the Society. The WGs are grouped into nine Fields of Interest and
members are encouraged to register their interest in up to three such
fields and participate in the discussion and dissemination of scientific
knowledge. Click for a full list of WGs and points
of contact.
Publications
The internationally respected Biosystems Engineering (formerly
JAER) is the official scientific journal of the Society. Members are eligible
to subscribe to Biosystems Engineering for their personal use at the
much reduced price of £229 per year (2008 price) compared with
the non-members' price of over £600. Contact the Secretary-General for
more details or use the form on page Membership & Subscriptions.
The EurAgEng Members' Directory is an invaluable reference listing the names of the members of the Societies with their contact details and technical interests. It is available to members only. To view the Directory, go to the Members' Login page and enter the first four letters of your surname and your password.
The EurAgEng Newsletter is sent to all members and contains items of news, conferences and other activities. It also acts as a forum for comment from members. Click here to view the latest newsletter in pdf format.
The CIGR Electronic Journal can be accessed at www.agen.tamu.edu/cigr/ and the CIGR Newsletter at www.cigr.org
Members looking for Professional Books may like to visit the Taylor & Francis CRC Press and Wageningen Academic Press websites. EurAgEng is in discussion with both publishers to secure favourable rates for members and/or commission for the Society.
EurAgEng is pleased to publicise (but not take responsibility for) free downloads of publications produced by Ross Macmillan of the University of Melbourne:
Networking
The Society offers many opportunities for meeting colleagues at conferences,
meetings and sponsored events. The Directory contains a directory
of members' names and contact details for members to use as an aid
to networking.
ENGAGE and Lobbying
EurAgEng is becoming increasingly active in making representations
to decision makers in the European Union on the allocation of funds
in agricultural engineering. In 1998/99, EurAgEng joined forces with
ENGAGE, the European Network of Engineering for Agriculture and Environment.
ENGAGE is a network of co-operating research institutes in the fields
of agricultural, biosystems and environmental engineering. It now
acts as the strategic division of EurAgEng with the broad aims of:
